DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce that our April meeting program features Conscious Discipline\, presented by Debbie Arena\, Director of Christ Church Preschool in Chapel Hill. \nConscious Discipline is an evidence-based\, self-regulation program that integrates social-emotional learning and discipline. The program\, developed by Dr. Becky A. Bailey\, empowers adults to consciously respond to daily conflict\, transforming it into an opportunity to teach critical life skills to children. Each member of the family (and school family)\, both adult and child\, learns the skills needed to successfully manage life tasks such as learning\, forming relationships\, communicating effectively\, being sensitive to others’ needs\, and gett…ing along with others. The skills include composure\, empathy\, integrity\, assertiveness\, responsibility\, the ability to make good choices\, and the ability to see the best in others. \nMrs. Arena and all of the staff at Christ Church Preschool have undergone extensive education in Conscious Discipline and utilize the program within their daily curriculum. The complete training is lengthy and can be geared toward parents\, teachers\, administrators\, and mental health professionals. Therefore\, Mrs. Arena will present some key features and take-home techniques of Conscious Discipline that are geared toward parents during this hour-long program. \nDebbie Arena has been the Christ Church Preschool Director since the school opened its doors in 1999. Having worked with preschool and elementary aged children since 1981\, Debbie is\, and has been\, active in the local school community. She holds a current North Carolina teaching certificate; is a member of the Durham – Orange Preschool Association and the National Association of Education for Young Children (NAEYC); has served on the school board of University United Methodist Preschool; and has taught Sunday school and directed vacation bible school at University United Methodist Church\, where she is a member. DESCRIPTION:We Parents of Multiples are a diverse group from many different backgrounds\, but something we have in common is our strong instinct for protecting our families. Inner Strength Martial Arts will be presenting a self-defense workshop during our November meeting (We’re taking December off from a meeting). Master Alex Changho and Master Cat Zohar are currently providing martial arts classes for children and families in Pittsboro\, Chapel Hill\, and Carrboro. However\, during this workshop for our club\, they will focus on equipping us parents with take-home strategies and techniques to avoid and escape unsafe situations. \nPlease join us for this informative\, interactive workshop. Refreshments will be provided. Please forgive the shameless photo–two sets of our CHDPOM twins and a momma are featured. \n  \nHere is a little bit of information about our instructors. Later this week\, we’ll find out which instructor will be providing our workshop. We’d love to have a great turnout for this meeting! \nMaster Alex Changho started training when he was in the 5th grade. He started his leadership training when he was 11 and earned his black belt before he was a teenager. In over 20 years of training students in the Triangle area\, he has developed leaders in and out of the academy through martial arts. Master Changho is a 6th Degree Black Belt. \n\nMaster Cat Zohar began her martial arts training when she was 6 years old. She trained in the Olympic program for taekwondo and was a National Level Competitor. She has had programs in Pennsylvania and Florida before coming to North Carolina. She has worked with dozens of instructors and hundreds of students. Master Zohar is a 5th Degree Black Belt.
